The Higgs boson turns 10: the contribution of the Florence research group

July the 4th, 2022: Exactly 10 years ago the ATLAS and CMS collaborations announced the discovery of the Higgs boson. The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Florence and the corresponding INFN section have played a long standing role in this achievement, with their involvement in the CMS collaboration, first in the design and construction of the microstrip silicon tracker and more recently in the analysis and characterization of the Higgs boson decaying to pairs of W bosons. Those results culminated today in the publication on Nature of a paper summarizing what we have learned so far, after decades of efforts before and after the discovery.
