Nobel Prize in Physics 2021: Congratulations Giorgio!

The Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel prize in Physics 2021 to Giorgio Parisi (together with Klauss Hasselmann and Syukuro Manabe) for his activity devoted to the study of complex physical systems. This is a very important achievement for the whole Physics community in Italy, that will certainly motivate young students to approach research with renewed curiosity and enthusiasm. Thanks Giorgio from the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Florence!
Recently the Caffe’ Scienza association organised a meeting entitled “A multifaceted physicist”: Giorgio Parisi took part to the event revisiting the most important steps of his scientific career. The recording of the meeting is available at the following link.
A paper resulting from a collaboration between our Department and ISC-CNR, and authored by our colleagues Federico Tommasi, Emilio Ignesti, Stefano Lepri and Stefano Cavalieri has been cited in the document that provides the scientific background for the awarded Nobel Prize. The paper reports on the experimental evidence of the replica symmetry breaking mechanism in random laser systems.
